Music I listen to

I love back porch and kitchen bands--the kind of music that is generally called "BlueGrass." I have been playing it all my life. I love folksinging, too. What I am telling you is that I prefer making my own music to listening to recorded stuff--but I do love live music of any kind. Anything from classical to deep southern blues.

Books that moved me

As a child I loved the stories about animals--I read all the Jack London ones about dogs; the great stories about horses, too--"the Black Stallion" and "Flicka" and many, many more.
The works of James Michener thrilled and educated me for years--Steven King's evocative writing kept me on the edge of my seat and afraid to go to sleep many times. I collect his books and guess I have copies of all of them.
I enjoy Dean Koonz's writing, too--and have read just about every science fiction writer at one time or another.

One of the most beautiful pieces of prose I ever read was "The Bridges of Madison County"--I could not put it down once I began reading it and it made me cry repeatedly. The movie was outstanding, too.

I enjoy Jean Auel's "Earth's Children" series and Sue Monk Kidd's feminist writings, "The Secret Life of Bees" and "The Mermaid's Chair" in particular.

I love reading the Bible--in all its many different forms--and also the uncannonized books that didn't "make the cut." Most recently I aquired a copy of the Book of Enoch the Prophet and I have been absolutely captivated in my spirit while reading it.

I write and collect poetry. Some favorite poets are Edna St. Vincent Millay, Emily Dickenson, Robert Frost, Browning, Yeats and Leonard Nimoy. (Yup--that's right, Mr. Spock is a poet)

I think there is nothing in the world like a book--and I sincerely hope and pray people never quit writing--and reading. The idea of the public library was one of the greatest gifts any free thinker and charitable person ever gave to society.

People I look up to

I look up to anyone who has found their truth and who live their lives according to it.

Interesting facts about me

I am
A Native Texas Sunflower,
I bloom best when the heat is on~
Unlike the transplanted Magnolia~
One blast and she is gone.

I am
a wild Weeping Willow,
Who bends in the fiercest gale
And afterwards stands unbroken
With yet another story to tell.

I am
Not a summer's rosebud
With dainty, perfumed feet
But like the heart of a Prickly Pear
My essense is nurturing and sweet.

I am
A believer in the saying
"Bloom where you're planted, friend,"
Life is what YOU make it
Its plot falls from your own pen.
I am
as happy each day as I make up my mind to be........

Then a priestess said, "Speak to us of Prayer." And he answered, saying: You pray in your distress and in your need; would that you might pray also in the fullness of your joy
and in your days of abundance. For what is prayer but the expansion of yourself into the living ether? And if it is for your comfort to pour your darkness into space, it is also for your delight
to pour forth the dawning of your heart. And if you cannot but weep when your soul summons you to...

Do you know what? Something that just really fries my tail real good is when I see people hurting one another. I can just see the Lord saying, "Come here, Peter, Michael--just look at what they are doing now! Can you believe that?"

How it must grieve Creator when we can't be good to each other; when we go out of our way to inflict pain on others. It's not like we don't know how it feels--all of us have been hurt sometime...
